Bring in private servers, allow people to invite other crews into that server to play together, and don't gate progression behind having to play with the aforementioned galleon of teenagers. I don't have time to waste, and I just want to look at the pretty waves, sunsets and get some fake gold coins to spend on lavish and useless clothing. Rare, if you read this, after working all day, coming home to a screaming child and finally getting them to bed. Just like I don't play PUBG and fortnight and all those other battle royale games. You think Rare intended the game to be a certain way so I just shouldn't play if I don't like it? You're not wrong, if that is their intent I will continue to not play. It won't kill the game, half the player base might play private (and I think players like me are a minority), but that leaves a lot of treasure sailing the ocean publicly. These are the two main arguments I see, I have yet to see a real reason it is a bad idea. If you are upset that people can progress by playing the game their own way without having to deal with your PVP/griefing/trolling that is a you problem, not a me problem, get over yourself. If you're upset that the people you run into are more frequently skilled at the game, and their loot is harder to steal, because us "bad" players are in private servers having a good time - let me toss this back at you: git good scrub. And no, I don't think that you shouldn't be rewarded for playing in a private server, I should get gold and reputation, because ultimately they mean nothing, and only provide cosmetics.Īdditionally, private servers would do nothing to harm predominantly PVP players experience, this is because of the way servers are handled, which has been repeated to death in threads like this. It is a good business decision for Rare, I would pay a premium fee to have my own dedicated server that I can muck about in as I see fit. This would invite a new fold of people into the game, and bring players who quit back. Because it (PVP) is a waste of time in my eyes. Private servers would allow me to invite another friend in their sloop to fight skeleton ships together, race, dance, go fishing, all the fun stuff you can do as a team without having to waste time with the PVP element of the game. This is not fun for me, it makes me (and others like me!) not want to play this game. Then they spawn kill me on my ship a few times, fake resurrect me to prevent me re-spawning, eventually sinking my ship, and taking my little bit of play time worth of loot. However, I don't enjoy when a ship turns on me and chases me for an hour, and when I finally give up and try to fight, I have four teenagers in a galleon yelling about how trash I am, what a shit player I am, and how I should just go kill myself. The PVE is really well done in this game and only getting better.

Having my ship sunk in these scenarios does not make me mad. I enjoy fighting skeleton ships, digging up treasure, getting attacked by krakens and megalodons. I am old, and I don't have a lot of time to play games.
